Often the step from being the staff that carries out the work to becoming a manager is a logical step in your career. However, being a manager brings you in a different position. You are no longer ‘one of the guys’, and it is now expected from you that you talk to others if you notice anything about their behaviour, but you also need to be able to bring bad news.
You work less on the actual subject matter of your business, but more on organisation, safeguarding progress, implementing changes, delegation and directing your team. You have a large responsibility and can determine your own course to a certain extent. Many managers just gradually ended up in their new managing position and do their work based largely on their instincts and experience. After a period of time, some managers might feel the need to give their work a certain framework and receive feedback from a third party.
